Shepard Fairey returns to ICA with Chuck D

From today's rare Hotline print edition in the Herald: Controversial street artist Shepard Fairey is returning to Boston next month, and this time Public Enemy’s Chuck D has his back.

Talk about fighting the powers that be.

Fairey and the legendary rapper will hit the Institute of Contemporary Art July 31 for a dance party and art celebration dubbed “Obey Experiment REDUX.”

Of course, last time Fairey tried to DJ at the ICA, he was arrested on vandalism charges before he even got to his own party - the kickoff to his hugely popular “Supply and Demand” exhibit, which includes the iconic “Obama Hope” poster. But the artist is giving it a second shot, and this time he’ll be joined by Chuck D and collaborator Z-Trip. .

Tickets are $35 or $125 if you want VIP treatment, which gets you into the open-bar lounge and a meet-and-greet with Fairey. The Fairey exhibit, the most buzzed about in the ICA’s history, wraps Aug. 16 before heading to Pittsburgh to chill with the Stanley Cup.
