A repost of my Hotline blog, because I'm lazy as fuck today: Last month, the Middle East Nightclub in Cambridge’s Central Square hosted a SXSW seminar that brought in some experienced dudes talking about how to get the most — from seeing shows to promoting your own — out of the yearly music festival in Austin, Texas. It was an informatively good time.
Now the next installment of a series dubbed “Rock Shop” arrives next Tuesday, Jan. 19, and it has a broader local appeal. The name pretty much sums it up: “Rock Shop #2 presents ‘You Booked a Show… Now How Do You Get People There?”
Mid East national talent buyer Kevin Hoskins and Shred of Team Shred Productions reside over the panel, and, we assume, will talk about promotional techniques beyond firing off a gazillion Facebook invites and peppering the bulletin wall outside of Hootenanny in Harvard Square.
It’s all-ages, free to attend and starts at 7 p.m. If this doesn’t draw well, look for the third Rock Shop to be titled “You Booked A Seminar About Getting People To Attend Shows… Now How Do You Get People To Attend Your Seminar About Getting People To Attend Shows?” (Note: there was free beer at the last one.)
