Friday night takeover: pill bands

Well, this makes me happy... Many of our friends within the band network have excellent gigs tonight, and the first two are performing our 7th annual pill Halloween Show just a fortnight from tonight...

- Televandals, live at the Middle East, with Have Nots, Side Effects (feat. James Lynch of Dropkick Murphys), Six String Bullets, Burning Streets. 8 p.m, 18+, $9

- The Honors, live at TT The Bears, with Youth Group, The States and Leo Blais. 9 p.m., 18+, $10

- The Sun Lee Sunbeam, live at Great Scott with pill DJs Ken & Michael V. 10 p.m., 21+, $5.

Love it.

Are you a Fang Banger? OMFG on Satz

My boy Vadum Rankin is throwing a superdope dance party tomorrow night, spitting in the eye of our first great Nor'Easter. Vadum, who has replaced Princess Useless in my infamous Allston residence, is a top-flight mate and the brains behind the old Circus parties and the Sweat joints I always load-blow over. Will hit this up and peep DJ Kelevra before capping things off at Videodrome. Be there, and get fang-banged by Michael V (Gross).

ITP: Ed Lover's "C'Mon Son"

From today's Herald: CLICK: ‘C’MON SON!’
Ed Lover - the rapper, actor and former host of “Yo! MTV Raps” - is taking on pop culture. Hit YouTube to catch “C’Mon Son!,”, his low-budget series of tirades that puts those fools who dominate the news in their rightful place. Everyone from Kanye to ESPN gets the treatment. Here’s betting “C’Mon Son!” becomes the new pop-culture catchphrase by Thanksgiving. It’s profane, so take note, but Lover has struck comedic gold. - MICHAEL MAROTTA

Seriously, Lover has put everyone on fucking BLAST. The funniest shit I've seen in forever, and no doubt everyone starts saying this shit on repeat. I mean, getthefuckouttaherewiththatshit.

Buffalo Wild Wing coming to Danvers. Oh my.

As if today couldn't get any better -- Boston Restaurant Talk says Buffalo Wild Wing is coming to Boston (erm, well, Danvers). While I'm just three pounds away from my weight goal, I will make an exception once this opens and pig the motherfuck out on sweet b-wing goodness. There's one in Florida I hit up with my parents (though thankfully not the past two times I've been down there) and I'd love to swap out the college sports bullshit at that one for some all-out pure-blood New England sports representation. Wikkid siked khed. What's next this month -- Suede reunion? Scott Stevens comes out of retirement? Lola learns how to cook? Jesus...

Lady Gaga at the Wang in December

These are truly the best of times... and I don't care if I act like a 13 year old girl involving anything Gaga. I pay my own bills I do what I want!

Repost from Hotline: Kanye West can't hold Lady Gaga down! The unstoppable pop princess has announced a headlining tour of her own, bringing along Kud Cudi for 22 North American dates that brings Gaga Superstar to the Wang Center for two dates Dec. 1 and 2. Yes, nevermind those hermaphrodite rumors -- it's Lady Gaga at the Wang, ladies and gentlemen.

The news is super sweet for Gaga fans, as the tour with West didn't include a Boston stop. The closest date was a Dec. 16 show at the DCU Center in Worcester, as well as a show in Hartford around Christmastime. Now not only do we not have to deal the guilt of with paying for Kanye West tickets, but travel just got a whole lot easier. Just dance, says Hotline!

Here's word from Interscope Records: International pop superstar Lady Gaga today announced plans for her next North American tour, entitled "The Monster Ball." The tour will begin on Nov. 27 in Montreal, and will wind up on Jan. 21, 2010 in Gaga's hometown, New York City. Kid Cudi will be the supporting act for the entire tour.

Says Lady Gaga, "The Haus of Gaga had been designing 'The Monster Ball' for premiere in 2010 at the O2 Arena in London, but due to diligent work and preparation, 'The Monster Ball' will begin on Nov. 27 in Montreal. 'The Monster Ball' is a multimedia artistic experience in the style of the first-ever 'pop electro opera.'"

Lady Gaga will release a re-package of her breakthrough album, The Fame, called The Fame Monster, earlier that week, on Nov. 23. The re-package will include eight brand new songs, including the club-banging first single "Bad Romance." Continues Lady Gaga, "A message to all my little monsters: The Fame Monster will come out four days before the first live show. You have exactly 96 hours to learn all of the lyrics so you can sing along. Dress accordingly."

The dates for "The Monster Ball" are:
Nov. 27 – Montreal, Quebec, Canada – The Bell Center
Nov. 28 – Toronto, Ontario, Canada – Air Canada Center
Nov. 29 – Ottawa, Ontario, Canada – Scotiabank Place
Dec. 01 – Boston, MA – Wang Center

BBC interviews the Sun Lee Sunbeam

In advance of the Sun Lee Sunbeam's album release party tomorrow night at le pill, the fine folks at Boston Band Crush sat down with Jessica for a little Q&A action.

And to get us all in the mood oh so proper, here's the promo bio from the pill boston dot com: Friday, Oct. 16: the Sun Lee Sunbeam "Beneath the Burning Sky" album release

Year 13 begins all too fittingly down at the pill. Our firefly modern indie dance party gets coated in the pink-black glittery glitz this Friday as the Sun Lee Sunbeam unleash their latest album, “Beneath the Burning Sky” under a cascade of confetti confections within the fresh-reflective Great Scott cavern. The past year has seen the 'Bam take on Elastica last Halloween and strike the infrared Black Prom match in cold-hearted February, but this week they return on the pivot of a sly wink spun toward their own five-inch spiked heel, with the Boston Phoenix dubbing this unisex quartet as “one of the most gloriously brooding rock machines to emerge since the Abbey Lounge shut its doors.” So naturally, “Beneath the Burning Sky” is a star-crossed river-hopped product high atop the Moontower pedigree, a 15-track indie-punk blitzkrieg dashed in the darkness of dependable bed time treats and dazzled in brunch time's unexpected daylit sheets. We adore Jessica Sun Lee and her Sun Lee Sunbeam gang, and we are certain you will as well. The anniversary glance has passed, so loosen the tie, pull up the dress and smear the mascara gently to the side, all while still finding a way to look sharp at Boston's best indie dance party. Unlucky numbers ne damned.

ITP Cheaps: Videodrome, Ghosts & Ka- ka-Kia

On tap in this week's Cheap Thrill Kill Thrills from my Boston Herald column, I present Videodrome Discotheque, Kia's candy-car bribery parties and the Ghosts of Somerville, all in what should be another Best Weekend Ever (Note on OMFG TK).

VIDEO KILLED THE DJ STAR
Videodrome Discotheque Episode 8: It’s Gotta Be a Strange Twist of Fate

The Common Ground, 83 Harvard Ave., Allston; Saturday, Oct. 17, 10:30 p.m. to 2 a.m.; 21-plus, $3
OK, face it, sitting at home alone at midnight watching old ’80s McDonald’s commercials on YouTube doesn’t lead toward much of a social life. Thankfully, the occasionally scheduled Videodrome Discotheque dance party - named after the 1983 David Cronenberg sci-fi adventure flick - has the visual retro itch covered. DJ/VJ Craig MacNeil - and his infamous eyebrow, which has its own Facebook page - pairs up new wave and guilty-pleasure pop with a series of vintage videos up on the Common Ground’s big screen. From old commercials and ’70s TV and movie clips to whatever else MacNeil finds in his growing collection of antique visuals, it’s a group-party time machine back to the glory days when eating McDonald’s eight times a week was as healthy as drunkenly dancing to Bertie Higgins and Rick James in a dimly lighted Allston bar. C’mon get snappy.

SPOOKYVILLE
The Ghosts of Somerville performance and tour

Milk Row Cemetery, 400 Somerville Ave., Somerville; Saturday, 4 p.m. to dusk; $5-$8, all ages
Live in this area long enough, and you’re bound to have your own Somerville ghosts, from the night you bombed at the Abbey Lounge to the bar you drank too much at in Union Square to the artsy girl you foolishly fell for who lived in Davis. Personal ghosts are everywhere in Somerville, and for some, the haunting is daily. But the Somerville Historic Preservation Commission and the city’s always-thinking Arts Council want to highlight some real, otherworldly apparitions in the most densely populated municipality in New England. With roots that date back to 1630, there’s bound to be some Caspers running amok. The fifth annual Ghosts of Somerville brings back to life some of the city’s famous spirits and re-creates the undead lives of some of Milk Cemetery's famed residents, including Samuel Tufts, Window Rand and Emiline Dane. They might not be as spooky as the real-life ghosts haunting our 2 a.m. walks up Highland Avenue, but they’re just as real. (The rain date is Sunday.)

I GOT SOUL BUT I’M NOT A SOLDIER
Kia Motors Soul Collective Tour

Artists For Humanity, 100 West 2nd St., Fort Point Channel in South Boston; today through Sunday, from noon to 8 p.m.; Pains of Being Pure at Heart performs Sunday at 6:30 p.m.; all ages. FREE
What better way to hype up a new whip than to bribe the kids with DJs and indie bands? It’s like the new 20-something hipster version of candy and soda pop, and playing the role of weekend dad is Kia Motors, which is throwing a way-cool, three-day party for everyone who test-drives its new 2010 Kia Soul. It’s all capped off Sunday evening with a live performance by New York indie-pop kids Pains of Being Pure at Heart, but the events leading up to that are action-packed with some of Boston’s best DJs, including Frank White, Bladerunners and Mistaker. Add in a few other live gigs from White Rabbits and Here We Go Magic (Friday) and Boy Crisis (Saturday), and test-driving a car you may or may not purchase never sounded so sweet. Check out the Web site below for the full schedule, then go and get some hipster candy just in time for Halloween.

Cool shit: Bang Bang Eche

I'm certain this is not a reference to former Philadelphia Flyers netminder Robert Esche, but New Zealand's Bang Bang Eche are all sorts of disco.post-punk fierce (and I'm "certain" because it's spelled differently, Vanyass). I've wanted this sound to come back for a few years now, and this might lead the charge. At Great Scott with Har Mar Superstar and Mystery Roar on Oct. 28. Don't front.

Penguin Club tonight, post-Asobi

Hoping to flip rivers post-Asobi for the Dirty Dancing-edition of the Penguin Club tonight, and ol compadre Dan E Pants of the original Rock Candy 617 party fills in on the deks. Not sure what the connection is to Swayze and the Brattle Theatre's "Dirty Dancing" screening at 7:30pm, but the two have joined forces and well, we need more of that shit here in Boston Hate City.

From Penguin Dave: As anyone who's played "alive or dead?" recently would know, actor Patrick Swayze is no longer with us, and the fine folks down the road at the Brattle Theater have decided to eulogize the departed with a tribute in film, followed by an afterparty at ZuZu. We're calling this "A Dirty Dance Party", as you just might hear a couple of songs made popular by Patrick Swayze movie soundtracks - Dirty Dancing, Donnie Darko, maybe even a little Ghost.

Well there you fucking go.

RIP Capt. Lou Albano

Another one bites the dust, and I've attached rubber bands to my face here in the newsroom as my own silent, personal memorial. Best wrestler-crossover-into-80s-video ever. RIP Capt. Lou Albano.
