La Roux in Boston last night

Got all sorts of fuzzy at the La Roux show at the Paradise last night, so thanks to Whompblastah for posting some live footage on YouTube and reminding me how excellent the evening was. I was worked up and exasperated after Yes Giantess' opening set of pitch-perfect dance-pop, so it took me a while to get rolling with Elly Jackson & Co. But once they launched into the hits -- "Quicksand" (posted below), "I'm Not Your Toy," "Fascination," "In For The Kill" and "Bulletproof" -- La Roux lived up to the hype with sharp, spacious electro-pop that's heavier and meatier than the bass and synth lines initially suggest. There's a high bounce in La Roux's sound, but it's also quite gravitational and whipsmart.

It's really a glorious time for electronic music, and Jackson's Crisco-spike could end up being the face of the UK contribution of the movement. Next up: Little Boots at the MIddle East in April.
