Halloween is such a drag.

Nothing quite like putting the ex's otherwise useless leftovers to good use. While I stepped out for a bit last night, Michaela V took over. Judging from all who threw up just a bit in their mouths, I think she'll be a recurring theme.

More to come on last night in a few days once the dust settles, but it was clearly the greatest event I've ever put on. Unreal. Thanks to The Daily Pravda, Televandals, The Honors and The Chemical Smiles for one hell of a party. Photos, video and the standard hyperbole TK. But last night, in just mere moments, I went from this...

to this...

Spooky world, indeed.

This is it: Halloween 2k9 @ the pill

The past couple of weeks have been quite the whirlwind, and it all culminates tonight at the pill's 7th annual Halloween Show. I feel like this will go down as the best party I've ever put together (and I've had my fair share of good times) and can't even explain how excited I am. Thinking of resurrecting the old Eddie Izzard costume for the occasion...

The Daily Pravda as RADIOHEAD
Televandals as THE CLASH
The Honors as THE SMITHS
The Chemical Smiles as THE SOUNDS
with pill DJs Ken & Michael V. Doors at 8pm. Admission is $10

ITP: Best Halloween parties on Saturday night

In today's paper I ran down some of the best parties going on tomorrow night around Boston. So much awesome shit, this is really the best time of year.

Pulse-sating Parties
By Michael Marotta

In a year of weekend-long parties, some of the best are saved for last. Here’s what’s going down around town Saturday night.

Bloodfeast Media Party: Machine plays Halloween every night of the year, so expect the ghoulishness to be raised when DJs Mistaker, Mothra and others darken up the electro vibes, with tricks and treats from Karmaloop. 1256 Boylston St., 9 p.m., $15, myspace.com/bostonbloodfeast.

Resurrect (True Productions and Throwed): The legendary Circus electro party is back from the dead for one devilish night in a sleek bass-thumping electro throwdown with VIPJ of the Cool Kids and local beat paraders Vadum Rankin, Fantastadon, E-Marce and Jeff Gil. Candy corn sushi, anyone? Privus Lounge, 165 Brighton Ave., Allston, 10 p.m., $10, truecrew.com.

A Nightmare on Charles Street: A haunted house in a renovated old prison with a costume party and beats dropped by DJ Michael Savant. What else do you need? Overnight packages are available. The Liberty Hotel, 215 Charles St., 8 p.m., $25, libertyhotel.com.

Lifestyle as Depeche Mode: Taking a break from spins as New Order, local synthpop vets Lifestyle twirl the mike stand of David Gahan and his gloomy crew. But get there early for Lake Champagne’s turn as Prince. Reach out and touch cake! Great Scott, 1222 Commonwealth Ave., Allston, 9 p.m., $10, greatscottboston.com.

Slumber Party Massacre 2: The club transforms into the set of a cheesy ’80s horror flick, and Joe Bermudez shows why he’s the most internationally recognized DJ in Boston. Expect a massive crowd. Pearl Nightclub, 275 Tremont St., 10 p.m., $20, boston.going.com/slumberparty2.

The Lights Out as Phil Collins: Lots of easy lovers in the air tonight, not to mention a tribute serving of Duran Duran (the Luxury), David Bowie (Sidewalk Driver) and the Runaways (Gene Dante & the Future Starlets). Church, 69 Kilmarnock St., 7 p.m., $12, churchofboston.com.

Voodoo Fest: Felt Nightclub takes on a New Orleans theme, and we can only hope they have Hurricanes and Hand Grenades mixed right behind the bar. Jay K the DJ breaks the levees on the Top 40 dance party. 533 Washington St., 10 p.m., $10, feltboston.com.

Big sound small room: If you’re not into big bashes, pack in tightly at the free dive party with DJs Die Young and Baltimoroder and a live performance by DPony (members of Hooray For Earth, Wild Light and Zambri). O’Brien’s Pub, 3 Harvard Ave., Allston, 9 p.m., free, obrienspubboston.com.

Blues Halloween: Singing the blues? Then settle in for Lovewhip’s Erin Harpe and Jim Countryman, with Pete Weiss & the Weisstronauts. Rosebud Diner, 381 Summer St., Somerville, 9 p.m., $5, rosebuddiner.com.

Hotline: Halloween weekend flyer roundup

This week's "Thursday to Sunday Nightlife in Flyers" series in my Hotline blog was massive -- more than 40 parties listed spanning four days of Halloween weekend debauchery. Here's a sample of my favs:

ITP: Cheaps: bike rides, Green Day & hot dogs

On tap for this weekend's Cheap Thrills column in the Herald: Halloween bike rides, Fatal Flaw goes Green Day and dress up your dog like coyote dinner... Yikes!

SPOOKY WHIRL
Truth Serum’s annual Halloween Bike Ride

Meet at Green Street T Station in Jamaica Plain, Saturday, 8 p.m., all-ages, FREE
Forget about parties and gigs and spooky midnight movies - the scariest thing one can do on Halloween (or any other day, for that matter) is ride a bike through the mean streets of Boston. But on Halloween a few brave ghouls band together and span 14 miles of temperamental terrain: from Jamaica Plain to Brookline to Boston to Allston to Cambridge and then back to JP. Billed as a costume dance party on wheels, Truth Serum’s Halloween Bike Ride is led by the mystical stereo bike. Grab a costume, jump on some wheels and dodge those eggs launched off rooftops in true Boston bicycle style.

GREEN COVER-UP
The Fatal Flaw performs as Green Day

O’Brien’s Pub, 3 Harvard Ave., Allston; tonight at 9 , 21-plus, $9
There was a time, before all the not-so-subliminal political messages and bloated rock-opera nonsense, when Green Day was a pretty cool band bursting out of the California punk scene. Back before Billie Joe found his God in eyeliner, just as the band tossed mud at the ill-advised Woodstock reunion and right before suburban soccer moms knew all the lyrics to “Basketcase,” we had was a pop-punk band so raw and gritty no one could have predicted sold-out shows at the TD Garden decades later. Tonight Lunch Records catchy-as-the-swine-flu indie band the Fatal Flaw take us back to Green Day’s savage young halcyon days, a time when they actually did play gigs with a $9 cover. Fatal Flaw frontman Joel Reader (no stranger to pop-punk history as a member of Pansy Division and the Mr. T Experience) unearthed an early Green Day set list from 1994, and word is the band will be faithful to it. Also performing in this ’90s-licious tribute night are Texas is the Reason (by members of White Wife, the Information, Barnicle, the Modifiers), Quicksand (Jack Burton and David Lo Pan) and Dag Nasty (Capital Radio). Go ahead, give yourself the creeps.

WHO DRESSED THE DOGS UP?
Mike-FMs Howl-oween Dog Costume Contest & Pet Parade

Faneuil Hall Marketplace, Saturday at 2 p.m. (registration begins at noon), all-ages, FREE
Pugs in costume as Darth Vader, dachshunds decked out in hot dog attire and maltipoos like Jessica Simpson’s beloved Daisy dressed up as coyote dinner - we all love to get our four-legged pups in the Halloween spirit. Now they can be on display beyond your Flickr account and Facebook profile when Mike-FM (93.7) woofs it up and hosts its dog costume contest and pet parade through historic Faneuil Hall grounds. Traditional trick-or-treating with humans is so last year - bring out the pups and vie for prizes in several categories, including Bad-2-the-Bone, Most Creative and Ugliest Costume (inspiration can be found at samugliestdog.com). Cash is king in this competition, judged in part by the Herald’s own fashion reporter Jill Radsken, and the booty should come in handy at the Yappy Hour afterparty pow-wow over at Ned Devine’s.

RIP former Danzig drummer Chuck Biscuits

Bummer news found on Blabbermouth.net, relaying news that former Danzig drummer Chuck Biscuits has died. In middle school I loved those first few Danzig albums, especially Lucifuge. RIP Chuck.

Former DANZIG Drummer CHUCK BISCUITS Loses Battle With Cancer - Oct. 29, 2009

James Greene, Jr., a freelance music writer from Brooklyn, New York, reports that legendary hard rock drummer Chuck Biscuits, whose lengthy résumé included stints in such flagship underground acts as BLACK FLAG and SOCIAL DISTORTION, died Saturday (October 24) after a prolonged battle with throat cancer. He was 44 years old.

"In response to the inquires, thank you for all the support," an anonymous family member wrote in an e-mail sent yesterday morning. "Chuck did not survive his battle with throat cancer. He passed surrounded by his family on 10/24/09."

Chuck Biscuits was probably best known to the general populous for his work with DANZIG. Beginning in 1988, Chuck played on that group's first four albums, which are often hailed as DANZIG's best (thanks in no small part to Chuck's powerful drumming style). The percussionist also appeared on 1993's "Thrall: Demonsweatlive" EP; that release yielded an unexpected chart-burning hit for DANZIG in "Mother" a song the band originally included on their self-titled debut.

Televandals "Good For Nothing" video pwns

Hey guess what?!!? I KNOW this shit ain't called Videoland, but I'm feeling the visuals lately. She's a rainbow, you know. Latest entry comes from my synth-punk lads in Televandals, who've released one hell of a video for "Good For Nothing." Directed by all-around fantastic-man Mike Gill, it's pretty entertainingly epic. Every time you see a pill kid -- do a shot.

And don't forget: Televandals as THE CLASH at tomorrow's Halloween Show. Like whoa.

New Hooray For Earth video: 'Form" :: prty strdy

Somewhat replicated from my Hotline post: Noel from Hooray For Earth passed along this little gem of a visual sonic yesterday, a new clip for their jam "Form." For promotional purposes, catch HFE's other project, DPony, at a free Halloween bash at O'Brien's on Saturday, joined like whoa by DJs Baltimoroder and Die Young. It's a nice, FREE alternative to the billions of other things going on -- and often the best parties are the ones packed out like this...

Also, Jonnyleather.com has another new HFE song, "Scaling," for your October listening pleasures... Now turn off the lights and stare into the screen...

FORM by Hooray For Earth from Mathematical Park on Vimeo.

In my head: Little Boots "Remedy"

The whole song of the week shit is as played out as me having to sit in the balcony for the Lady Gaga show in December, so I'm starting a new feature: "In My Head," and yes, it's nothing more than dope shit that gets caught up in my adroitly-styled dome piece all day.

So while La Roux broke out pithy little hearts last night, we turn our attention to the sleek electro-pop of Little Boots (the sexy chick formerly in Death Disco) and her contribution to the pill Dance Mix Vol. 3, "Remedy." Fanfuckingtastic, listening to this racing home from Coolidge Corner at 2am, this.

I am forever a 13-year-old girl. Or a drag queen. Same diff.

The Takedown returns: Mac & Cheese, plz

So the "Takedown" series returns to Great Scott on Sunday, Nov. 15, this time trading in chili snobbery for the creamy pasta goodness of Macaroni & Cheese. Oh noes! The first Chili Takedown was a blast -- pay the door dude a crisp tenner and spend the day sampling chili entries from all over the world. Shit is some serious business. I can't imagine how high the stakes have been raised for the M&C beatdown. How high? So high. Pimp ass flyer, too.

La Boooux! La Roux postponed. WTF!

UPDATE: New date is Jan. 31.

Really bummed that La Roux, at 6:45pm DOS, postponed their gig at the Paradise tonight. From Live Nation:

Postponed, new date TBA. All tickets will be honored at rescheduled date and refunds available at point of purchase if can't make new date. Check thedise.com for further news.

ITP: Bang Bang Eche at Great Scott 10/28

From my most recent Hotline post: There's a ton of great stuff going on tomorrow night (Wednesday Oct. 28), from Simian Mobile Disco at the Paradise to San Francisco party duo Wallpaper funking up the Bodega Girls' lo-fi hedonistic dance party at the Middlesex Lounge. Honestly, you can't go wrong with either of those.

But one band that's caught Hotline's attention takes the stage at Great Scott in Allston, performing alongside sure-to-be-huge-in-2010 local dance-soul kids Mystery Roar (members of Cassette, the Bon Savants, Westward Trail!!) and Los Angeles' mack-maven Har Mar Superstar.

They are called Bang Bang Eche, they are teenagers, they are from New Zealand, and their ferocious post-punk assault will likely melt your face off. It's like Gang of Four on steroids. And synths.

We can't print the name of their new EP in this family newspaper space, but it's already one of the more hyped releases of the year after the band blew things up at CMJ last week. Standout tracks "4 To The Floor" and "Time Mismanagement" have received a few favorable spins at local dance parties, and word on the street is that Bang Bang Eche's live show is not to be missed. Apparently they also pass around a teardrop-shaped Vox bass while playing on stage, but we'll see about all that.

Here's a Hotline preview pulled from Bang Bang Eche's Red Bull Studio Sessions... fire it up.

RESURRECT : Halloween @ Privus Lounge

Well now. Shit. Huh. Damn.

I will most certainly be at Great Scott for Lifestyle's Depeche Mode set on Halloween Night, but this, oh this... this is where I'll be when Sean Drinkwater isn't Gahaning it up on stage. An extension of last year's Circus parties, still my favorite non-pill Boston dance party EVER, Resurrect takes over for one night only down at Privus Lounge, the site of much celebration, much heartbreak and much regret. Not sure I'm ready for all this, but damn am I excited. The best times of the past few years went down in this room.

'Toxic Is Dead' video ... of the year!!!!!

Oh boy, another Toxic Avenger post! Still reeling after catching Simon kill it at Webster Hall a few weeks ago, LOOK AT THIS MOTHERFUCKING VIDEO. Jeezus H. Tuesday be thumping.

The Toxic Avenger - Toxic Is Dead from IHEARTCOMIX Records on Vimeo.

Toxic is Dead, the new single from Parisian electro thrash producer, Toxic Avenger. The Toxic Is Dead EP (featuring remixes by Drop the Lime, Franki Chan, Cyberpunkers, and South Central) is available now on IHEARTCOMIX Records. Video directed by Steven Ilous and produced by Otto Arsenault for SMI Entertainment Inc.

Next Week: Dragonette, Televandals & Mv

This is NEXT Wednesday -- not tomorrow when Har Mar Superstar/Bang Bang Eche (Great Scott), Simian Mobile Disco (Dise) and Wallpaper/Bodega Girls (Middlesex) all invade our towns -- but I'm posting it today because Nico Televandals flyer is the hotness. Dragonette is a dope Canadian-based electro-pop group that does NOT fuck around. More on the show next week, but here's the invite. Let's kill.

Song of the Week: Ladyhawke "Magic"

I kicked off perhaps my best two DJ sets ever last Friday at the pill with Ladyhawke's "Magic," and damned if this isn't the sexiest song I've heard all year.

Given the sudden sense of personal yearning experienced last week due to a flame's brief absence, the music itself is quite appropriate even though the lyrics mostly don't match up to my exuberant emotional state. But this entire album is incredible, and I'm glad I skipped out on her show at the House of Blues several weeks ago, as I was in attendance with the wrong person...

Hotline: Download the new Hot Protestants EP

Pulled from my Herald Hotline bloggy blog: Just four months after releasing their debut EP, local indie band Hot Protestants (featuring a few of the fine dudes from Age Rings) have released a second EP, dubbed "EP2." And it's available for free download via hotprotestants.com. It's more of the rocking-out buzz-pop bliss we expect from these guys. And free always works.

The official release party arrives this Friday at T.T.'s in Cambridge in a hey-it's-not-a-Halloween-cover-show gig alongside Taxpayer, Vivian Darkbloom and Emeen Z. And in even cooler news, the Hot Proz will be performing as the Angry Inch at the Arsenal Center For The Arts' production of "Hedwig & the Angry Inch," from Nov. 12-22 over in Watertown USA. Way cool.

Thursday: Uniform party in the South End

I'm posting this now because 1) there's a bazillion things going on this week and it's a mad-dash sprint to Friday and 2) you need to RSVP to gary@uniformboston.com (say you read it on Michael V.'s Vanyaland) by Wednesday. I've already gotten my roommate hooked on Uniform Boston and you should be as well. And hey, it's a sale and DJ Ken spins.

I will not be attending this, sadly, as Andre Obin and I are hitting the Bruins-Devils game at 7 and (thanks to Kelly, forever) I plan on hearing "Going to Pasalacqua" live at OBs later that night. Busy fucking bee.

Discovering: Somerville's Technoir MA

Dating back to Ben Sisto's Honeypump booking era several years ago, unexpectedly discovering new local music on Sunday nights at Great Scott has become a personal tradition of mine. Bands like Big Digits and UV Protection first crossed my path in a half-full room in a last gasp for the weekend, and just hanging out catching whatever was on-stage that particular night remains some of my favorite memories of random Allston occurrences.

Last night I went to GS for much-delivered UK electro trio We Have Band, and walked away blown away, by them for a bit but mostly by the second act on the quad-band bill. It was Somerville-based atmospheric post-punk duo Technoir MA, filtering a sound heavy on early dreampop-fed New Order loops and waves but exploding with possibilities. With two guitarists (one a very young Bernard Sumner, almost creepily so) and a wealth of technology at their feet, all that appears missing for these guys to become one of the most promising Boston bands in a long time is a live drummer. Or a visible laptop.

From the stage, a new EP was promised for December, and I'm already counting down. In the meantime, Technoir MA's next local gig arrives Nov. 18 at the Midway Cafe in JP, and they'll be at the pill if they ever want to.

10.31.09: Lifestyle as Depeche Mode

On Halloween night our good friends in Lifestyle are going to be performing as Depeche Mode at Great Scott. This all came together after I have solidified the pill Halloween lineup, so while I'm bummed we're not a part of it, I am stoked that I can just chill and enjoy it without the usual pill-related stresses. Lifestyle, of course, performed as New Order at the pill's 4th annual Halloween Show back in 2006.

Though my personal crusade to have "But Not Tonight" added to their set was rendered unsuccessful, this should still be your best option for Halloween Night. I even hear Prince might show up, as well. Reach out and touch faith, next week is going to rule.

We Have Band :::: ticket giveaway :::: GS 2nite

I have two pairs of tickets to give away to tonight's We Have Band show at Great Scott, where you will find me by the bar with my head on the bar. Been feeling this UK trio pretty hard lately, and Great Scott continues its fab Sunday night live music series like whoa. "Hear It In The Cans" is some hypnotic shit, and word from CMJ is that this is one blipped-out rapid-fire live show.

Allston electro DJ duo Roguewaves light the M80 dance party, and three other electronic-winked locals warm shit up: Herra Terra, Technoir MA and Crystal Understanding.

Wanna go? Email me at myriadcause@yahoo.com and I'll randomly select two winners by afternoon. Place to be, and all that.

Lola vs Mouse

Wrong way, Mickey.

ITP: Last call on La Roux @ the Dise 10.27

From a recent Hotline post of mine: Tuesday night's La Roux show at the Paradise RC should be one of the best of the season. But if you haven't already gotten tickets, now's the time to do so. There's only about 20 tickets left, and a Live Nation source tells Hotline the highly-anticipated show should sell out by tomorrow morning.

And as if the pure electro-pop fury of La Roux wasn't enough for a sleepy Tuesday in autumn, organizers have added some intense local flavor to the bill: opening things up are rising synthpop susperstars and current darlings of the British press Yes Giantess (a Hotline fav) while Thunderdome's Mistaker serves as the night's DJ before and between the bands.

Yowza! Get on this if you haven't already... and look for Jed Gottlieb's interview with La Roux's Elly Jackson in tomorrow's Herald.

Ryan's Smashing Life turns 3 :: TTs on Saturday

Repost from today's Hotline tip on the RSL blog 3rd anniversary showcase: Happy anniversary shout-out to our friends over at the Ryan's Smashing Life music blog, which celebrates three years of life with a sweet show tomorrow night at T.T. The Bear's Place in Cambridge. Details, bios and streaming music can be found here.

RSL founder Ryan Spaulding is offering up four of his favorite Northeast acts: the indie-folk of The Grownup Noise, the atmospheric rock of Blizzard of '78, New York synthy pop-rock kids Bridges & Powerlines and Quincy-based theatrical rock upstarts Tik Tok.

Spaulding has a great ear for new and emerging local talent, so he's a safe bet to plan a night around even when you're not all too familiar with his lineups.

After all, this is a man who appreciated the genius of Brooklyn indie-Americana band Pela (RIP), so he is to be trusted.

More Halloween artwork for Oct. 30

Really started to get excited for this... even though we can't look past the Golden Silvers at le pill tonight!

10.30.09: The Honors as THE SMITHS

More on next week's Halloween Show at the pill, where Boston modern indie rock band THe Honors perform a set as THE SMITHS. Yeah, the Smiths. Only at the pill. Look bloody sharp.

The Rakes have broken up.

Like every relationship these days, the Rakes have broken up, though this time with each other. That means no Great Scott show on Nov. 11. Kinda a bummer, as I really loved the Weird Science remix of "Work Work Work," which I will play on Friday as a sonic 40-pour-on-the-floor salute. It was a staple of my early pill sets when I first started DJing two years ago...

Statement from the band: "The Rakes have always been very adamant and proud of the fact that we give 100% to every gig we've ever played. If we can't give it everything then we won't do it. That was the rule we set ourselves from day one.

After much deliberation we have come to the shared conclusion that we can't give it 100% anymore and regret to announce that The Rakes are calling it a day. We are sorry to let down all the people who were coming to see us on the UK & US tours. Writing your own obituary is a surreal thing to do but we want to give particular thanks to our much-loved fans, all the great people we've worked with over the years, our management and loyal record label. We feel privileged to have had the opportunity to write music together and perform around the world. Genuinely, thanks for the good times.... That was one hell of a party! But now, we really must get some sleep."

10.30.09: The Daily Pravda as RADIOHEAD

This should be the most epic shit going on this Halloween, even though everyone says their shit is epic, we've delivered seven years straight. Don't miss this: the Daily Pravda as RADIOHEAD ('90s era, lads).

Limited number of advance tickets available here.

Cheaps: Bruins, Vagiant and Monsters, oh my

From this week's Cheaps in the Herald: Rounding up Bruins parties, Vagiant's CD release and the Monster March at Government Plaza. Woot.

STRANGE BREW BRUIN
Boston Bruins away-game viewing party

Hard Rock Cafe, 22-24 Clinton St.; Saturday, from 6:30 to 10 p.m., all ages, FREE
In the National Hockey League, there’s no team that embodies rock ’n’ roll like the big bad Boston Bruins. So it’s fitting the team has paired up with the Hard Rock Cafe for its first away-game viewing party of the season while the black and gold is in Ottawa taking on the Senators. Bruins mascot Blades and the team’s Ice Girls will be in attendance, and there’ll be raffles and prizes. But there’s also a Bruins-themed cocktail list, which got Cheap Thrills thinking - what if fans in attendance selected their adult beverage based on the achievement of each player? After all, the Hard Rock Cafe bar is stacked. So if German Marco Sturm scores a goal, order a shot of Jagermeister; if Patrice Bergeron nets one, rally up a Cognac; if young netminder Tuukka Rask gets the start, pour some Finlandia vodka; if Americans Tim Thomas [stats] or Blake Wheeler stand out, roll with a Budweiser. And of course, with a predominantly Canadian roster, just keep that Molson and Labatt chilled on ice, just like the B’s themselves.
Info: 617-424-ROCK, hardrock.com/boston, bostonbruins.com.

CALL 800-54-VAGIANT
Vagiant Boston CD release party

Great Scott, 1222 Commonwealth Ave., Allston; tonight from 9 p.m. to 2 a.m., 18-plus, $9
There is one Vagiant battle brewing between Los Angeles and Boston. As the decade-old California-based comedy group Vagiant has forced our beloved female Allston punk band to slap a “Boston” onto its moniker, the ladies of rock trudge on tonight with their album release party at Great Scott. “Trash Candy” continues their own potty-mouth punk in the sonic thrash vein of the Ramones and Stiff Little Fingers, all while declaring love for all things beer, chicken wings and “The Karate Kid.” But this is more than just hot inked-up chicks playing speedball rock ’n’ roll - they’ll certainly arm wrestle you after the show if you get too drunk and out-of-line. Also on the fiery bill are Planetoid, Tenefly Vipers and Razors in the Night, featuring vocalist Troy Schoeller, owner of Allston’s very cool shock-rock clothing boutique Horror Business. Wear plastic vampire fangs to this bash and prepare to bleed.
Info: 617-566-9014, greatscottboston.com, myspace.com/vagiantboston.

MONSTERS BALL
2009 Boston Monster March

City Hall Plaza at Government Center; Saturday, from noon to 10 p.m.; all ages, FREE
By this time of year, the weekend highway backup to get into Salem stretches down to the I-93/Route 128 interchange. Thankfully here in the Hub we have the very accessible 2009 Monster March, an all-day charity event that benefits the Samaritans. It’s free to enter and hang out, but if you donate to the cause, things step up a notch to the tune of mechanical bulls, obstacle courses and a giant Velcro wall. Those preferring to not pay-to-play can chill to the autumn-esque goth-cabaret sounds of Walter Sickert & the Army of Broken Toys, as well as live performances by locals Ketman, Casey Desmond and Jaggery. There’s also a a mile-long monster and zombie march as well as a worldwide simultaneous dance to Michael Jackson’s “Thriller” around 8 p.m. Now that’s something no mere mortal can resist.

Golden Silvers live @ the pill 10.23

From the pill boston dot com (more later this week, but here's advanced warning):

friday october 23:
the Golden Silvers
UK disco-rock trio here on a CMJ holida
y

Upon this tidal wave of new dance culture comes London trio the Golden Silvers, who shake the spackle crisp and party with us this Friday at the pill. With just three stateside shows planned this week – the other two are CMJ showcases in New York just before they hit Boston – now’s the time to get hip to the Golden Silvers' explosively melodic 4 a.m. party sound. Standout single “True No. 9 Blues (True Romance)” is already a pill dance floor staple, a tidy disco-fused anthem strut that promises the moon from these cats in 2010. Already recipient of Glastonbury’s 2008 New Talent competition, the online and media buzz is building steadily. Wrote the Guardian UK on debut album “True Romance”: “Flamboyant lyrics, references to Greek myth and big, elastic bass lines dominate.” A perfect mix for our Friday night dance party throw down high atop the Abott Square perch in Allston Rock City. Look sharp.

Get hip and get sorted to the sound of the Golden Silvers over at myspace.com/thegoldensilvers, and do arrive early as to not miss this exclusive performance with us at the pill. Before and after the band, DJs Ken & Michael V spin the best in Britpop, Modern Indie & Beyond. xo

Best Friday Night -- the pill nominated, Dig This

The Pill has been nominated for Best Friday Night in the Weekly Dig "Dig This '09 Awards. I know, I know, another contest, but hey, it's always fun to win, as we usually do, and this time we're up against the So Dope crew for their late-night bashes at Rise (which have Paparazzi in town this week, certainly helping their cause).

So yeah -- the pill, "Best Friday Night," sounds about right. Cast a vote if you are so inclined.

FNX 'Miracle' show: Passion Spoon Phoenix Pit

From le Hotline de la Boston Herald (yeah I know that probably makes no sense):

This year's annual FNX Radio "Miracle on Tremont Street" concert features much rock but no coal. Taking the reindeer reigns for a tidy-yet-forceful holiday bash are Texas-sized indie band Spoon, French synth rockers Phoenix and everyone's favorite Cambridge-dance-band-gone-global, Passion Pit.

It all goes down at the Orpheum on Friday Dec. 4. Solid bill, radio blokes.

Those with a rabid tooth for all things Spoon and Phoenix can sign up to the weekly FNX e-file mailer and get a chance to buy tickets before the general on-sale this Saturday at 10 a.m. And if you haven't yet heard Passion Pit's own Ayad Al Adhamy's sterling remix of Phoenix's "1901," go seek it out. Perhaps they'll play it after the show.

We Have Band -- we have gig, Sunday @ GS

Super swamped this morning, but here's some advance notice on the Show of the Weekend, non-pill category: Sunday night UK electro trio We Have Band sexes up Allston Town, and while I'm getting too old for end-of-weekend ragers, this isn't to be missed. More to come post-deadline...

Tuesday, October 20, 2009

Lady Gaga on-sale: Saturday at 10 a.m.

ITP: Advance tix to Fatal Flaw as Green Day (Oct. 29)

Pulled from another Hotline post of mine this morning, and you know what, I DO NOT CARE that I am admitting to loving a Green Day song. Nope, don't fucking care. The song rules, and can't wait to hear it post-Devils-Bruins game next Thursday at OBs...

No no no no... not the real Green Day, but local indie band the Fatal Flaw's Oct. 29 Halloween Show performance at Obrien's Pub as early '90s Green Day, taking us back in time to before the snotty-cool Bay Area punks got all epic rock opera on us. Folks can scoop up advance tickets here for a limited time, and since O'Brien's holds about 80 people, they might go fast.

While I don't mean to be too revealing, I do have on on good authority that Green Day's greatest song, "Going to Pasalacqua" (off 1991 compilation "1039/Smoothed Out Slappy Hours"), will be included in the Fatal Flaw's set. That's worth the ticket price right there, kids.

The rest of the night shapes up like this:

12:00 Green Day (The Fatal Flaw)
11:00 Texas is the Reason (Members of WHITEWIFE, The Information, Barnicle, The Modifiers)
10:00 Quicksand (Jack Burton vs. David Lo Pan)
9:00 Dag Nasty (Capital Radio)

Kent's one brilliant moment

Lost classic, relevant to all this.

Carolina church: Tom Brady is going to Hell

... and not just because my Winter Boyfriend (see you in the spring, Jacoby, mwwwa) probably thinks of me when not banging Giselle and throwing a billion TDs against hapless teams from Tennessee (Dismember the Titans?). No, a Carolina church says Alpha-Male Brady will burn eternal because of his playboy lifestyle. Check the Gospel from NESN.com, which relays the word from the since-crashed website of Amazing Grace Baptist Church down there in the wacky-assed South:

"Tom Brady has an unwed child, but it's okay because he wins Super Bowls. Tom Brady is teaching us to have sex outside of marriage, to commit fornication, don't marry and do the right thing, don't take responsibility for your actions, have a good time no matter who you hurt in this world, go from sex partner to sex partner, and it's okay because of who I am. How many of you dad's cheer on Tom in the Super Bowl while your kids are watching?"

Hey, I don't cheer, I rub one out. Big difference. And folks, always remember one simple rule about Brady worship:

Video: Echo & the Bunnymen @ GS 10.18

Holey moley, massive props to Mick Murray of In Your Face Photo for capturing video of last night's Echo & the Bunnymen show at Great Scott. I mean, this happened. Still floating.

Setlist: Echo & the Bunnymen @ GS 10.18.09

What a night. Three words on this image will last for a very long time. I am beyond thrilled to have been sought out during it, being able to connect with another in a way so usually foreign. More to come on Echo tomorrow, but here's the setlist, procured by Kayley. Great Scott, Sunday, Oct. 18, 2009, Boston Massachusetts xo

Echo & the Bunnymen tonight @ GS

Gloomy Sunday washed out in slush finds Echo & the Bunnymen performing our Allston party playpen for 240 of our closest friends. Been looking forward to this since it was just a rumor-turned-secret, and now another epic weekend is capped off with Will Clarks and the potential of hearing "The Killing Moon" in a tidy intimate rock club. Here's what I wrote in the Great Scott mailer on Thursday:

SUNDAY 10.18.09 ::: Echo & The Bunnymen, with DJ Carbo as part of The Fenway Recordings Session

Boy oh boy, Sunday nights have come a long way since Ben Sisto was booking weird noise shit, huh? Well, by now you've heard about this one, as UK post-punk legends Echo & the Bunnymen roll up to our little clubhouse and do it clean for an elite batch of ticket-gulping hipsters. Well, shit. Great Scott has come along way since I booked the 8mm Fuzz be *perform as* Echo & the Bunnymen on Halloween a few years ago, huh?

I wonder what the ghost of Doug Flutie thinks about all this? For promotional purposes, I should probably note that Echo has new album out, "The Fountain," and the lead single, "Think I Need It To," is really not half bad, and the band will return to the House of Blues in November, and that singer Ian McCollough - oh fuck it, you knew whether or not you were going to this within 15 minutes of the on-sale. Hope you got in, should be a motherfucker hearing "The Killing Moon" live in this room. Yowza.

new pill flyer for fall ::: lady k

Possibly the last pill flyer of 2k9, the wonderful and amazing miss Lady K does the honors, adding her touch in hyping four shows that take us through November: the Golden Silvers next week, the the 7th annual Halloween Show on Oct. 30 and two insane performances next month, original pill band Bon Savants (11.13) and Philly electro-noise outfit, featuring Wes Eisold, Cold Cave (11.20). Look sharp.
